Irish State Pension Checker 2026
Find out roughly what State Pension you can expect based on your PRSI record. Enter your total paid + credited contributions — we'll show your weekly rate under the Total Contributions Approach.
How is this calculated?
Total Contributions Approach (TCA): pension entitlement scales linearly between 520 contributions (minimum to qualify) and 2,080 contributions (full rate). For example, 1,040 contributions = ~50% of full rate, 1,560 = ~75%. The 2026 full rate is €295.80/week. This is a simplified projection — official entitlement also depends on age at qualifying date, residency, and specific scheme rules.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Total Contributions Approach?
TCA replaces the older Yearly Average rule. Under TCA, your pension is proportional to your total paid + credited PRSI contributions, capped at 2,080 (about 40 working years). The transition from Yearly Average to TCA is complete by 2028 for most cases.
How can I check my actual contribution record?
Log into MyWelfare.ie with a verified MyGovID account. Your PRSI record shows every paid and credited contribution by year. If you spot gaps, you can sometimes top up via Voluntary Contributions or HomeCaring Periods schemes.
Can I top up missing contributions?
Yes, in some cases. Voluntary Contributions let you cover gaps in employment. HomeCaring Periods credit up to 20 years of full-time care for children or relatives. PRSI Credits cover periods of unemployment, illness, or training. Each scheme has eligibility rules.
When can I claim the State Pension?
Currently age 66. The pension age was due to rise to 67 in 2021 and 68 in 2028 but was paused in 2020. From 2024, eligibility from age 66 is preserved with the option to defer until 70 in exchange for a higher rate.
Will I qualify if I worked in the UK or EU?
Possibly — there are pro-rata pension agreements with the UK (despite Brexit, under bilateral arrangement) and EU member states. Cross-border contributions can fill gaps. Apply for a State Pension well in advance to allow time for verification across jurisdictions.
